Grades 5 – 6 Schedule

A Day in the Life of an Intermediate Student

In Hillside’s Intermediate School, periods of focused, engaging coursework are interwoven with physical activity and play in our 5.5 acre forest. The rhythm of our schedule optimizes learning.

Students begin their day with a check-in in the homeroom at 9:00 am with Merideth Block, our Intermediate School Supervising teacher. The homeroom serves as the classroom for the humanities, and students move to other classrooms for math, science, art, and drama. Additions to the core schedule include Art on Wednesdays and Dramatic Improvisation and Creative Writing on Fridays, provided by our experienced artists-in-residence.

Note: 5th and 6th graders are taught together except for their Math and Writing classes.
