Important Basic Policies
2010-2011 School Year
Grades 5-12
1. Upper Grades 7-12 Necessary School Supplies
Please have your student come to school prepared with 500 pages of loose-leaf college ruled notebook paper, a USB thumb drive, 2 dozen pencils, and a refillable water bottle, to be stored in her/his locker on Wednesday, September 1st. Paper and pencils will need to be replenished in January and March.
For all 7 – 12th grade math classes, please bring a TI83 or graphing calculator to class.
Grades 7 – 12 students need a King County Library Card in the student’s name, clear of all fines. Please email the card number to Susan Wedgwood as backup.
2. Absences
Grades 5-12: Please contact the school answering machine at (425) 747-6448
before 8:30 AM if your child is going to be tardy or absent.
3. Regular School Attendance
School attendance is vitally important to your child’s progress.
However, regular attendance becomes especially essential for at least two
weeks prior to the following evening performances:
grades 5-7 drama performance, grades 9-12 History Feast, grades 8-12 drama elective performance. Please check the calendar and make a special note of the evening that your child will perform – as well as any after school rehearsals. Non-essential activities and appointments should be scheduled outside of these times.
4. Dismissal Time and Student Pick Ups
Regular class dismissal is 3:00 PM. Please note dismissal times for any After School Clubs in which your child may be enrolled. If parents are late for the 3:00 PM pick up, they will be billed $10.00 per 15 minute increment. Thanks for being on time! If parents pick up their children during the school day for appointments, etc., the parent must park outside of the dead end street and come into the school to collect the student.
5. Late Pick Ups From Eastgate Park & Ride
If you are late meeting the school van, plan to pick up your child at the school.
Drivers will return unmet students to the school campus unless the waiver on
the Van Transportation Form has been completed and signed. Late fees described above will apply.
6. Contacting Teachers Outside of School Hours
Students with urgent questions about homework may leave their names & phone numbers on the teacher’s home voice mail or email during the school week. If available, the teacher will return their message. Parents with a special concern should contact the teacher directly by either email or phone. Please contact Leslie directly at either lesjam@drizzle.com (include the word “Hillside” in your header/subject line), or (206) 725-1075, a month ahead for parent-student-teacher conferences scheduled in Nov. (gr. 5-6), Dec. (gr. 7-12), Mar. (gr. 7-12), May (gr. 5-6 & 9-12), and June (gr. 7-8). See school calendar.
7. Contacting the School or Your Child
The school phone number is (425) 747-6448 and will be answered from 8:45 am to 3:30 pm on school days. Otherwise please leave your message on the answering machine. Students are asked to turn off cell phones while at school. In order to reach your child during the school day, please call the school number and the message will be relayed to your child.
8. Chemical Sensitivities
In consideration of students and staff who have chemical sensitivities, HSC students and their families are asked to refrain from wearing perfumes, scented hair spray or scented mousse at school.
9. Tylenol or Ibuprofen Policy
Hillside Student Community students may be administered Tylenol or
Ibuprofen for minor pain complaints. If you DO NOT wish your child to
be administered Tylenol or Ibuprofen, please fill out the Tylenol and Ibuprofen Policy and Refusal Form and return it to Hillside prior to the start of the school year.
